Rich on sights

Not only does the unique Ammerland Park Region attract many visitors to Bad Zwischenahn, but also the various places of interest and sights offer a broad variety for a visit. Whether there are historic buildings in the Spa Park, lovingly restored mills or superb churches and even ‘castles’ – there are many things to explore! Or how about a visit to a museum? At the "Freilichtmuseum" for example, one can meet the history of the Ammerland. The museum in Specken has various objects focusing on history.

"Drei Berge" used to be Dreibergen castle hills. Conspicuously "Drei Berge" rise in the village of the same name on the north shore of the lake. A castle complex of the counts of Elmendorf stood here in the middle of the 12th century.

Romantically situated in the high moor, Engelsmeer is home to many plants and animals worthy of protection and has been a nature reserve since 1938. The whole area is about 2 hectares and is surrounded by a birch forest.

A bench in the reading garden is a lasting reminder of 100 years of bathing. The bench was designed by the steel sculptor Leonard Wübbena from Funnix in East Frisia. The sides of the monument have been made to look like books.

Four mills are within reach. They are typical of Ammerland and have been lovingly restored. Choose the right one for your tour of discovery – or visit them all at once.

St. Johannes is the oldest landmark of Bad Zwischenahn. Generations of believers meet here for church services, weddings, baptisms and funerals. But the other churches are also very impressive – each tells its own story.

The bronze sculpture of the cartoon figure Mainzelmännchen Det stands directly at Zwischenahner Meer and puts a smile on the faces of visitors to Kurpark.

180 steps have to be conquered, but then you will have one of the most beautiful views of Bad Zwischenahn – in all four directions. You should take your time for the ascent, as there is no lift.

Strand- und Nichtschwimmerbereich am Woldsee

Pure nature in Ammerland and lots of peace and tranquillity, although Woldsee is located by the motorway. Woldsee was created in the 1970s when sand was needed to construct the A28 motorway.

Zwischenahner Meer is the third largest inland lake in Lower Saxony. It is to 5.50 metres in places and its 550 hectares of lake area are a delight for water sports enthusiasts. By the way, the term "Meer" is based on North German language.

In 1979 a huge fish made headlines all over the world – and Bad Zwischenahn became famous. If you want to get a tremendous impression of the Zwischenahn catfish, you can be surprised by the bronze portrayal at the market square.
