Herbal ingredients play a major role in Sebastian Kneipp's teachings.
Kneipp explored the effect of herbs on the body and thus found many suitable medicinal plants that were suitable for physical ailments. The advantage: many of the medicinal plants Kneipp recommended are native plants. The priest also attached great importance to regionality.
Many of these herbs and medicinal plants can be discovered in Bad Zwischenahn.
"Nature is the best pharmacy"
In medicinal plant therapy, certain parts of plants (such as whole plants, roots, leaves or flowers) are used fresh, dried or as an extract.
Especially spices (chives, parsley) or wild medicinal plants such as dandelion are often used. The medicinal plants are prepared in hot water, alcohol or cold water.
An internal application is made as a tea. As an external application, herbs are mainly used as medicinal baths, in inhalations or for the preparation of compresses. The active ingredients reach the tissues and bloodstream through the skin (compresses, baths) or through breathing (inhalation).
"He who understands casting is an artist in healing".
The Kurpark in Bad Zwischenahn is not only suitable for relaxing by the sea or going for a walk. Plant lovers will also find a richly stocked herb garden there. On the guided tour "Auf Entdeckungsreise im Kurpark (discovering the Kurpark)", guests can get information about the local herbs, whose effects were brought to the fore again by Kneipp in the 19th century. Perhaps one or two will be inspired to grow their own herbs in the garden and profit from their positive benefits.
Teas
The priest Sebastian Kneipp used various herbs and plants to brew them into tea. Some of them, he mixed into blends still known today, such as some aniseed, fennel and caraway. Guests can get ideas for their new favourite tea in the open air in Bad Zwischenahn or in the herb garden in the Kurpark. After all, many useful plants and medicinal herbs also grow in our region.
Oils
Raw materials from nature are becoming increasingly popular in the wellness sector. Sebastian Kneipp already had solutions for this in the 19th century. Nourishing oils can be wonderfully produced from herbs. The different modes of action of the plants were or are still used accordingly today. Why not enjoy a relaxing time-out with a massage using a soothing oil made from hemp and red poppy? For tension, the arnica plant helps out.
Bath additives
If you prefer to relax in a full bath, you can again rely on the power of plants. For colds, a bath additive made of eucalyptus and mint helps to clear the airways. Patchouli oil and sandalwood provide relaxation.
